The city of Malaga is located in a privileged enclave, embracing the Mediterranean Sea. The city was founded by the Phoenicians, who built a settlement near the hill on which the Alcazaba stands today.

The early life of Pablo Ruiz Picasso is intimately connected with Malaga city, where he was born in 1881. In 2003 the Picasso Museum was founded in the heart of the old town showing some of his main works.
